Rob Brown Llwyd is originally from the comfortably small town of Fithian, Illinois, and is right glad to be a lifelong 'country boy.' He has always had a passionate fascination with plants and all living things, sharing that love through gardening, exploring the world and sharing what he's found. His interest in herbs and herbal medicine started young, with folklore learned through relatives, but only 'dabbled' in the art for personal interest or to help friends for several years. He studied premodern history and archaeology at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN) and Cornell University (Ithaca, NY); 'his' premodernism was mostly mediaeval Europe and the Classics with a focus in gender, social roles, and belief systems. Endlessly interesting as this was, he bade a quiet farewell to scholasticism in order to pursue his growing Calling to herbalism which he finds not merely interesting but enthralling - and he's been committed to this passion since. In the pursuit of herbal and clinical knowledge, Rob jokes that he quartered the compass: he was apprentice to 7Song, director of the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine for three years before enrolling in a one year residency/intensive program at the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine for 'finishing school.'

Rob is dedicated to individual empowerment in the processes of health and wellness, and believes that everyone is entitled to the resources they may need to be well. He is an unabashed social activist/advocate who sees no difference between issues of social equality, personal and environmental responsibility, spiritual growth, and simple honest decency. His hobbies include gardening, fixing his house, roleplaying games, reading, hanging out with his pets, embroidery and on occasion playing the harp. He also works as a landscaper in fair weather, and regular contact with roots and soil help to keep him honest.

Rob lives and works in his home, known as the House of Doors, in Lansing, NY.
